3-D Pop-Up Armor Targets

MES designed and developed the first Three-Dimensional Pop-up Armor Targets for live fire exercises for the U.S. Marine Corps in a production configuration. The targets replicate the physical dimensions of the T-72 Tank and the BMP armored personnel carrier. The current targets also provide a thermal (IR) signature similar to the actual armored vehicle and provide a return for laser ranging devices. In addition, the targets can be enhanced to provide further detail for radar signatures. Each target weighs less than 250 pounds and can be installed and ready for use in less than 1 hour.

Design of the target permits transport by pick-up or humvee. The target does not require a special lifter and the current two dimensional lifter is sufficient to raise and lower each target. Utilizing commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) equipment in design and manufacturing, makes the target easily repairable and cost effective, while providing a greater degree of realism in live fire exercises.

MES delivered one three-dimension pop-up armor target to U.S. Army in Fort Irwin, CA.
